A Resolution Authorizing the
County Administrator to Execute on Behalf of Fauquier County
a Grant Application to the U.S. Department of Homeland
Security for the Purchase of Self-Contained Breathing
Apparatus

Topic Description: |
|
Fauquier County has 250
units of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) that is
currently used by Fauquier County Fire Service Division.
However, with new regulations/requirements, the County will
need a total of 300 units for proper coverage. The current
250 pieces of equipment will be expiring in March 2012. The
U.S. Department of Homeland Security has made available a
grant to purchase airpacks, bottles, masks, regulators, rit
paks to outfit only 158 of these units. Conditions of the
grant will allow purchases to support first line in service,
riding positions, engines, wagons, rescue and ladder/towers
and medic units only. This grant will not support the
remaining 142 SCBA units in tankers, brush trucks,
chief/command vehicles, first response vehicles or
training. The application for this grant requires
authorization from the Board of Supervisors. |

Financial Impacts Analysis: |
|
Fauquier County could be
awarded up to $891,093.22 for the purchase of 158 units.
This grant is awarded on an 80/20 basis. The County's
portion could be $178,218.64, which is equivilant to 20% of
the total amount awarded. The County could receive
$712,874.58 in actual funding. |
