Topic:

A Resolution to Provide Local Aid to the Commonwealth

Topic Description:

In the spring of 2008, the County received notice that the General Assembly had chosen to respond to shrinking State revenue growth by shifting responsibility for a portion of the shortfall to local governments.  The State has made across the board reductions of approximately 4% in payments to local governments. The County is required to send $303,176 to the Commonwealth in Fiscal Year 2009.  These reductions were anticipated in the adopted County Budget.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors:

Consider adoption of the attached resolution.

Financial Impacts Analysis:

Payments to the State of $303,176 in FY 2009 and $302,232 in FY 2010. 

The FY 2009 budget reflects a $486,000 reduction in State revenue which was based on a conservative estimate at the point when the budget was being prepared.
