,
Fauquier
County
received notification from the Virginia Department of Emergency
Management that
Fauquier
County
has been allocated $164,100 in this funding cycle.
Eligible grant categories include a number of areas to
assist first responders. The
County Public Safety Committee has identified the implementation
of the public safety radio system as the Committee’s number one
priority.
The County has also
sought additional grant funds to augment the number of radios to
be purchased and to upgrade the Fire and Rescue paging system.
The number of radio units in the existing Motorola contract
was based on a 1999 survey should be expanded to provide
communications equipment for the new employees, volunteers and
emergency equipment that have been added since the survey.
The timing of the grant will allow the County to purchase
communications equipment at a discounted price as the Motorola
contract amount will significantly increase after
August 22, 2003
.
In meetings with the
Sheriff, Fire and Rescue Association and Fire Chief, it was the
consensus of the group to purchase the additional mobile and
portable radio communications equipment that will be largely
assigned to the Volunteer Fire and Rescue units.
