PROCLAMATION
A PROCLAMATION TO DECLARE OCTOBER 2005 AS DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT AWARENESS MONTH IN FAUQUIER COUNTY
WHEREAS, disabilities affect one in five Americans, and more than 75% of Americans with disabilities receive no public assistance; and
WHEREAS, the 2000 Census reported over 4 million disabled individuals between the ages of 21 and 64 in the Commonwealth of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, it is recognized that individuals with disabilities are ready, willing, and able to be an essential part of Fauquier County’s human resource capital; and
WHEREAS, disabled individuals can, and do, provide many vital services in public and private employment sectors of Fauquier County and other jurisdictions of the Commonwealth of Virginia; and
WHEREAS, individuals with disabilities are among the most committed and motivated employees, representing a non-traditional, skilled labor pool, providing a competent and creative workforce which can meet the needs of many types of employers; and
WHEREAS, individuals with disabilities have demonstrated abilities in executive, administrative, and managerial positions, successfully working in diversified areas such as marketing, sales, administrative support, service industries, professional, and technical fields; and
WHEREAS, October 2005 has been declared National Disability Employment Awareness Month; now, therefore, be it
PROCLAIMED by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors this 8th day of September 2005, That October 2005 be, and is hereby, declared Disability Employment Awareness Month in Fauquier County.
