Topic: 

A Resolution to Approve Training and Travel Expenses for an Employee of the Economic Development Department

Topic Description:

The Department of Economic Development wishes to send Catherine Payne, Tourism Coordinator, to the Virginia Institute for Economic Development (VIED) in Blacksburg, VA.  The Institute is designed to outline how economic development is used to benefit Virginia’s cities, counties, and towns by furthering economic growth.  The program is a three day, non-credit certificate program discussing current state economic trends, finance, marketing, planning and roles of different state agencies in community development.  The cost of the training is estimated to be $1,385.19, which exceeds the County threshold of $1,000.00 set under the County’s Policy on Training and Career Development, requiring the Board of Supervisors’ authorization of the additional $385.19.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

Consider adoption of the attached resolution.

Financial Impacts Analysis:

The Economic Development Department’s FY08 budget can absorb both the cost of enrollment in the class and local travel expenses, therefore, no additional funding is being requested as part of this resolution.
