The Fauquier County
Department of Fire & Emergency Services (DFES) applied for a
Department of Homeland Security Federal Assistance to
Firefighters Grant to fund a fire training trailer project
totaling $517,395. Of that amount, 80% is being provided by
Federal funds in the amount of $413,916, and the 20%
matching funds are being supplied by the Fire and Rescue
Association in the amount of $103,479.
On May 24, 2007, Request for
Proposal RFP#89-07sm was issued for a Mobile Structural Fire
Trainer Trailer. Three responses were received and
evaluated by an evaluation committee with the committee
consensus clearly in support of an award to Kidde Fire
Trainers of Montvale, New Jersey, as the top-ranked offeror.
The competitive solicitation process resulted in a base
price lower than originally estimated, which enables DFES/Fire
and Rescue to also obtain some optional features to utilize
the grant funding received for this equipment purchase. The
contract for the trailer is $446,900. The remaining funds
will be used to supply personal protection equipment to
support this program.
