PROCLAMATION

A PROCLAMATION TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND HONOR THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF

KAREN E. COSNER TO THE CITIZENS OF FAUQUIER COUNTY

                WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors, on behalf of all citizens of Fauquier County, wishes to express its deep sense of loss following the passing of Karen E. Cosner on August 4, 2006; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors wishes to recognize the many contributions of Ms. Cosner to the citizens of Fauquier County; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cosner was born September 28, 1935, in Washington, D.C. and moved to Fauquier County in 1958, where she and her husband, Victor, kept a small farm in New Baltimore, where they raised Charlois cattle and horses; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cosner studied real estate at the Emerson Institute of Northern Virginia Community College and the Realtorsí Institute of the University of Virginia, and was licensed as a broker in 1972; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cosner founded Cosner and Company Realtors in 1973 and continued as its owner and principal broker until illness forced her to retire; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cosner was a director of the Virginia Board of Realtors and chaired its Education Committee; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cosner was past president of the Fauquier Board of Realtors and served for many years on its board of directors; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cosner was the recipient of the first Realtor of the Year Award in 1977 by the Fauquier Board of Realtors, and was named Virginia Realtor of the Year by the Realtor Land Institute; and

WHEREAS, for many years, Ms. Cosner served on the board of directors of the Fauquier Unit of the American Cancer Society, where she was president from 1985 to 1986 and Crusade Chairman in 1980; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cosner was past president of the Warrenton-Fauquier Chamber of Commerce and past president of the Soroptimist Club of Warrenton; and

WHEREAS, in 1991, Ms. Cosner was awarded the Business Person of the Year Award by the Fauquier Chamber of Commerce; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cosner was appointed by Governor George Allen to the Vint Hill Economic Development Authority and, beginning in 1996, she worked for seven years with the County and the Governor to obtain approval for the project; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Cosner served as a former chairperson of the Fauquier County Board of Assessors; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Karen E. Cosner represents a profound loss to the residents of Fauquier County; now, therefore, be it

                PROCLAIMED by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors this 14th day of September 2006, That the Board of Supervisors, on behalf of all citizens of Fauquier County, does hereby extend its deepest gratitude to Karen E. Cosner and its heartfelt condolences to her family.
