Topic:              A Resolution Authorizing a Career Ladder Program within the Geographic Information Systems (G.I.S.) Department 

The G.I.S. Department is currently staffed by three full-time permanent positions.  The entry level position, G.I.S. Technician, is usually filled by student interns from within the department or recent college graduates who have no prior G.I.S. work experience.  Upon attainment of on-the-job experience and increased skill levels, these employees become attractive recruits for other localities and the private sector.  A career ladder program within the G.I.S. Department will promote the retention of qualified staff.   This request has been endorsed by County Administration and is recommended by the Personnel Committee.    

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors:

Consider adoption of the attached resolution.

Fiscal Impact:

The Department will absorb any costs associated with this request.
