A State of
Emergency
was declared by the Governor of Virginia on
September 15, 2003
, due to an approaching Category V hurricane known as Hurricane
Isabel. On
September 18, 2003
, the County’s Director of Emergency Services issued a
Declaration of Local Emergency in response to the anticipated
impacts of the hurricane. The
attached resolution confirms the Declaration of Local Emergency.

Consider adopting the attached resolution.

Detailed fiscal impact analysis will be performed
and submitted to the
Commonwealth

Virginia

RESOLUTION
A RESOLUTION CONFIRMING THE DECLARATION OF
LOCAL EMERGENCY MADE
SEPTEMBER 18, 2003
WHEREAS, on
September 15, 2003
, Governor Mark R. Warner declared a State of
Emergency
for the
Commonwealth
of
Virginia
; and
WHEREAS, on September 18, 2003, the Fauquier County Director of
Emergency Services, on the recommendation of the Fauquier County
Coordinator of Emergency Services, issued a Declaration of Local
Emergency; and
WHEREAS,
on September 18, 2003, Hurricane Isabel, classified as a Category V
hurricane, caused widespread power outages, high winds, and flooding,
threatening the safety and welfare of hundreds of Fauquier County citizens
and necessitating the need to open an emergency shelter; and
WHEREAS, on
September 18, 2003
, President George W. Bush granted a Federal Disaster Declaration to the
Commonwealth
of
Virginia
; and
WHEREAS, Section 44-146.21 of the Code of Virginia (1950), as
amended, requires the Board of Supervisors to confirm the Declaration of
Local Emergency issued by the Director of Emergency Services; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors this 27th
day of September 2003, That the Declaration of Local Emergency made on
September 18, 2003, by the Director of Emergency Services, as a result of
Hurricane Isabel, which caused widespread electrical disruptions in
Fauquier County, Virginia, be, and is hereby, confirmed.
