Topic: 

A Resolution Confirming the Declarations of Local Emergency Made September 17, 2004 and September 28, 2004

Topic Description:

On September 17, 2004, a State of Emergency was declared by the Governor of Virginia due to an approaching hurricane known as Hurricane Ivan.  On September 17, 2004, the County’s Chief of Fire and Emergency Services issued a Declaration of Local Emergency in response to the impacts of several related tornados.

On September 28, 2004, a State of Emergency was declared by the Governor of Virginia due to the effects of Tropical Depression Jeanne, which caused widespread flooding, road closures and the opening of an emergency shelter in Fauquier County.  On September 28, 2004, the County’s Chief of Fire and Emergency Services issued a Declaration of Local Emergency in response to the impact of Tropical Depression Jeanne.

 The attached resolution confirms the Declarations of Local Emergency.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

Consider adoption of the attached resolution.

Financial Impacts Analysis:

A detailed fiscal impact analysis will be performed and submitted to the Commonwealth of Virginia and Federal Government for possible reimbursement.
