A Resolution Authorizing the County Administrator to Submit a Virginia Land Conservation Foundation Grant Application

Topic Description:

The proposed resolution authorizes the County Administrator to submit a Virginia Land Conservation Foundation grant application.  The purpose of this grant is to obtain funding to purchase six (6) parcels adjacent to property purchased in 2005 at Rappahannock Station Battlefield.  Purchase of these parcels will protect additional battlefield property, as well as provide additional public access to the Rappahannock River.  In conjunction with property currently owned by the County, it would give the County control of river frontage from old Route 29 to the new Route 29.

The grant application requests $236,500; terms of the grant are 50% local match, with funds being provided on a reimbursement basis.  The developer of adjacent properties has an agreement with the County to donate $150,000, in lieu of road construction, which will be used as part of the local match.  Total project cost is anticipated to be approximately $473,000.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors:
