Topic: 

A Resolution of Endorsement to Request the Commonwealth Transportation Board to Establish a Project for Construction of a Pedestrian and Bicycle Trail

Topic Description:

The Parks & Recreation Department is applying for a Transportation Enhancement grant to provide funds for construction of approximately one-half mile of paved bicycle/pedestrian trail at Woods of Warrenton to connect the existing White’s Mill Trail to the Warrenton Chase Trail, currently under construction.  Ultimately, this trail will also connect to the Warrenton Branch Greenway, the Town of Warrenton, Lord Fairfax Community College as well as the proposed Central Sports Complex, to provide scenic, safe, off-road access between these areas. 

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

Conduct a public hearing and consider adoption of the attached resolution.

Financial Impacts Analysis:

The Fauquier Trails Coalition has committed to donate $5,000 as part of the required matching funds.  The value of the land proffered for this bicycle/pedestrian trail will offset the local match required.

Once completed, annual maintenance costs for the portion of trail to be funded by this grant will be approximately $5,500.
