C’Ville Rail, a non-profit
organization, is seeking to obtain daily AMTRAK services to
Charlottesville, Virginia. The organization is trying to
put together a coalition of localities along the Norfolk
Southern line that runs from Washington, DC to Danville,
VA. The purpose of the coalition will be to seek General
Assembly approval of a demand assessment study for passenger
rail service in this corridor. They are hoping that the
Board of Supervisor will consider a resolution supporting
the need for the study and also agreeing to consider any
request for a local match of any funding that the state
provides for the study if the state requires a local match.
The resolution does not bind the County to provide a part of
the local match, only that the County will “entertain a
request to financially participate in any required local
match.” Currently Charlottesville, Albemarle, Orange,
Culpeper and Nelson Counties have passed the resolution.
