referenced grant is for purposes of the Town
planning a bicycle and
pedestrian route through downtown, historic Remington.
The Town of Remington anticipates that grant
funds will be utilized to develop more detailed plans
consistent with both the County’s and the Town’s
Comprehensive Plans, as well as the Fauquier County
Connections Plan. With assistance from a public university,
town citizen participation will drive the planning effort.
Some engineering design work may be included. This
recreation and transportation connection will provide many
benefits to the Town and County when realized including
increased opportunities for tourism, patrons for Main Street
businesses, and connections to public facilities such as
schools and the planned Rappahannock Station Battlefield
enhancement grant project is likely to be the first of many
projects that will help showcase Remington’s small town
appeal, its National Register Historic District, locally
owned businesses, and Civil War history.
This grant will be administered by the Town of Remington,
but County staff assistance will be required to ensure
logical connections to the service district and County
public facilities are considered.
