RESOLUTION

A Resolution to the Remington Town Council Supporting its Grant Application to Achieve Comprehensive Plan Goals for Bike Path and Pedestrian Connections through Historic Remington and Connecting to the Remington Service District

WHEREAS, Fauquier County’s and the Town of Remington’s Comprehensive Plans promote pedestrian and bike paths as amenities for their citizens that achieve recreational, transportation, and environmental goals; and

WHEREAS, bike and pedestrian connections will showcase the Remington Historic National Register District, provide increased opportunities for tourism and recreation, and benefit main street businesses; and

WHEREAS, The Fauquier County Connections Plan shows bicycle and pedestrian paths linking the Town and the Remington Service District; and

WHEREAS, the Town of Remington seeks to pursue an application for a bicycle and pedestrian grant from the Virginia Department of Transportation that would:

  1. Produce a citizen-based bicycle and pedestrian plan with assistance from a public university; and
  2. Plan coordinated links primarily through the Town of Remington and connecting with communities and public facilities in the Remington Service District; and
  3. Produce a Remington Bicycle-Pedestrian Touring Guide that will identify the safe path, sidewalk and neighborhood street routes to existing schools, parks and other public facilities, commercial, and historic areas along the routes; and

WHEREAS, the Town of Remington will administer the grant and provide any requisite in-kind contributions; and

WHEREAS, the County is committed to providing staff assistance to help determine logical connections to the Remington Service District as specified in the County’s Comprehensive Plan; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors this 11th day of October 2007, That the Board of Supervisors does hereby support the grant application sought by the Town of Remington.
