A Resolution Authorizing the County of Fauquier to Act as Fiscal Agent for a Grant to The Journey Through Hallowed Ground Project

Topic Description:

The Journey Through Hallowed Ground is a broadbased collaberative effort to enhance the 175 mile corridor from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania to Monticello, Virginia.  The proposed Transportation Enhancement Project, "Phase I Corridor Management Planning", will focus on initial planning and, where appropriate, the implementation of a Corridor Management Plan for the Route 15/29/231 Corridor from Monticello to the Point of Rocks Bridge, generally following Virignia's historic "Old Carolina Road". The Journey Through Hallowed Ground Foundation has received a $1,000,000 grant  from the Federal Highway Administration, with the support of the Congressional Delegation, towards this project, which grant requires a local government to act as fiscal agent for the project.  A comparable initative has already been completed within the Maryland portion of the corridor with significant success.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

 Consider adoption of the attached resolution.

Financial Impacts Analysis:

The 20% local match will be provided by The Journey Through Hallowed Ground Foundation.  The Journey Through Hallowed Ground Foundation has already secured the funds to meet this match.  The project will require staff time from the County's Finance Department to act as fiscal agent for the project.
