Board of Supervisors' Priority: Create and Implement an Aggressive "Buy Local" Campaign

Topic Description:

The Fauquier County Department of Economic Development, the Fauquier County Department of Finance, Procurement Division and the Fauquier County Chamber of Commerce are working to review the potential of developing a Fauquier County Board of Supervisors Initiative designed to encourage citizens, businesses and the County government to purchase goods and services locally. The proposed program initiative, referred to as "Buy Local", would incorporate a County supported promotional campaign, an enhanced County procurement program and provide important input from the Fauquier County Chamber of Commerce.

The Department of Economic Development staff has reviewed opportunities for purchases of local goods, and provided a sample listing of new retail, service and related businesses that have located in Fauquier County. Staff has further provided options for establishing a County sponsored "Buy Local" campaign. The Procurement Division has developed local initiatives designed to encourage local participation in County supported procurement opportunities. The Chamber of Commerce has reviewed their long standing program of "Think Fauquier First" and has made suggestions on how to strengthen our local community by supporting our local businesses.
