Topic:

A Resolution to Request that the Fauquier County School Board Install School Zone Warning Signs with Flashing Sign Posts Along the Route 17 Medians Near Liberty High School

Topic Description:

The Transportation Committee recommends that the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors requests the School Board to install school zone warning signs with flashing sign posts in the median for the northbound and southbound lanes of Route 17.  These warning signs would reduce the legal speed limit and alert oncoming traffic of Liberty High School.  The signs would be in addition to the existing signs along the outside lanes. 

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors:

Consider adoption of the attached resolution.

Transportation Committee Recommendation:

On June 26, 2002, the Transportation Committee voted to recommend that the Board of Supervisors write the School Board to request the installation of school zone warning signs, with flashing sign posts, along the median of the northbound and southbound lanes of Route 17.

Financial Impacts Analysis:

A financial analysis was not completed for this request; however, the installation would be at the expense of the School Board, with signs furnished by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
