RESOLUTION A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY ADMINISTRATOR TO FILE A REQUEST WITH THE GOVERNOR OF VIRGINIA THAT FAUQUIER COUNTY BE DESIGNATED A DROUGHT DISASTER AREA WHEREAS, the drought conditions in Fauquier County during the period of July 4, 2008, to August 28, 2008, severely affected farmers; and WHEREAS, during the growing season of this year, Fauquier County received considerably less rainfall than normal; and WHEREAS, the Fauquier County Food and Agriculture Council, made of up the Farm Services Agency, the National Resource Conservation Service, and the Virginia Cooperative Extension, reports that approximately 1,344 farms have been adversely affected within Fauquier County, at an estimated loss of $7.5 million; and WHEREAS, it is incumbent upon the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors to authorize the County Administrator to file a request with the Governor of Virginia that Fauquier County be designated as a drought disaster area; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors this 13th day of November 2008, That the County Administrator be, and is hereby, authorized to file a request with the Governor of Virginia to declare Fauquier County a drought disaster area.
