Discussion of the Virginia Neighborhood Stabilization Program

Topic Description:

We have been contacted by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development regarding our interest and capacity to participate in the Neighborhood Stabilization program that passes through federal funds to acquire, rehabilitate as necessary and then make available for sale affordable housing units.  As of October 1, 2008 there were 207 bank-owned homes in Fauquier as a result of foreclosure activities.  Attached is a chart that illustrates the extent of the problem in Virginia.   The Affordable Housing Committee is gathering additional information about the areas most impacted in Fauquier and about program options should we seek to participate in this program.


Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

Conduct a work session and provide direction concerning possible participation in the Virginia Neighborhood Stabilization Program.
