WHEREAS, during this season of thanksgiving as we pause to reflect on the many blessings that have been bestowed on us as individuals, we are especially grateful for the love of our families and friends; and

WHEREAS, one of the most profound ways in which that love is expressed is through the generous support provided by family caregivers to loved ones who are chronically ill, elderly or disabled; and

WHEREAS, caregivers reflect family and community life at its best and are among Fauquier County’s most important natural resources; and

WHEREAS, family caregivers currently provide as much as 80% of the care that frail elderly and persons with disabilities need to remain independent and avoid unnecessary institutionalization; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors expresses its gratitude and respect for the many contributions that family caregivers make to the quality of our lives; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors commends the Rappahannock Rapidan Aging Together organization for its work through the community, faith, social, business, and other organizations to offer programs and services that will provide caregivers the support and encouragement needed to carry out their vital responsibilities; now, therefore, be it

 PROCLAIMED by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors this 13th day of November 2008, That the Board does hereby declare that Fauquier County will join the hundreds of localities in recognizing the valuable contributions of family caregivers; and, be it

PROCLAIMED FURTHER, That the Board of Supervisors actively encourages the support and participation of friends, neighbors, colleagues, and fellow citizens in associated caregiving activities and programs now and throughout the year.
