A Resolution to Authorize an Agreement with Rappahannock County to Allow Utilization of the County’s Public Safety Radio System

Topic Description:

The County has been working with Rappahannock County officials to determine if Fauquier County radio equipment can be utilized to assist Rappahannock County to improve public safety communications.  Discussions have also involved Culpeper County as a combination of the use of equipment in both Culpeper and Fauquier will address the needs of Rappahannock County.  It is believed that the addition of Rappahannock as a talk group on our channels will have limited impact on Fauquier.

In exchange for use of the Fauquier system, Rappahannock has offered a one-time payment of $25,000 and is prepared to pay an on-going maintenance fee of $50.00 per radio per year.  The shared use of facilities by Culpeper, Rappahannock and Fauquier provides a cost effective approach in order to achieve effective public safety communications and interoperability among the jurisdictions.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

Consider adoption of the attached resolution.

Financial Impacts Analysis:

Some revenue will accrue to the County to help offset existing maintenance costs.
