Future Landfill Operations and Capacity

Topic Description:

Staff has been working with consultants to assess the capacity of the Construction, Demolition and Debris (CDD) Waste Landfill (Permit #149 the Old Landfill) and Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Landfill (Permit #575).

 

The CDD landfill is permitted to operate through June 30, 2008.  At the current rate of landfilling, it is expected that the available space will be sufficient for approximately the next twelve (12) months, or until November 2006.  This operation provides significant revenue to the County that has been used to undertake capital improvements at the landfill, as well as to allow reduced MSW rates that benefit the County and Towns.  The staff will review options pertaining to this important revenue generating activity.

 

Preliminary information will be introduced concerning options for future MSW landfill needs.  The current site is forecast to meet these needs for next ten to fourteen years.  The work session is to discuss options and provide guidance concerning future CDD operations.

Conduct a work session.
