PROCLAMATION

A PROCLAMATION TO COMMEND RUTH ELIZABETH (BETSY) MAYR UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT FROM THE OFFICE OF THE GENERAL REGISTRAR

WHEREAS, in April 2003 Betsy Mayr volunteered to guide the office of the General Registrar through a transition period when the office lacked professional leadership; and

WHEREAS, Betsy Mayr came from Loudoun County where she served on that County’s Electoral Board from 1993-2003, and immediately and successfully took over preparation for the primary election scheduled for June 2003; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her competence and experience conducting elections, the new General Registrar selected Betsy Mayr as his deputy; and

WHEREAS, Betsy Mayr has faithfully served the citizens of Fauquier County by answering inquiries about the voting process, elections, and campaign finance in a courteous and non-partisan manner; and

WHEREAS, Betsy Mayr has guided candidates for local, state, and national elective offices through required paperwork so that forms were properly completed and deadlines were met on time; and

WHEREAS, Betsy Mayr implemented meaningful and uniform training sessions as part of the preparation for officers of election before each Election Day, and helped oversee a flawless recount of a close election in the general election of 2005; and

WHEREAS, Betsy Mayr has trained the office staff of the General Registrar to incorporate complex programs that require the use of new voting equipment and technology; and

WHEREAS, Betsy Mayr will retire from the office of the General Registrar effective December 31, 2008; now, therefore, be it

PROCLAIMED by the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors on this 11th day of December 2008, That Betsy Mayr be, and hereby is, commended for her outstanding service as Deputy Registrar that helped ensure honest and fair elections for all voters in Fauquier County; and, be it

PROCLAIMED FURTHER, That the Board of Supervisors extends its best wishes to Betsy Mayr for joy in her future endeavors.
