In November 2007, Fauquier
County submitted a grant application to the Virginia
Department of Transportation (VDOT) TEA Program in the
amount of $262,632.50 to fund approximately ½ mile of
bicycle/pedestrian trail to connect the existing White’s
Mill Trail to the Warrenton Chase Trail currently under
construction. The trail will provide a safe, off-road, and
scenic means of transportation for citizens in and between
these three neighborhoods in the Warrenton Service District,
provide recreational opportunities, and preserve another
section of the Cedar Run environmental corridor of the
County. Ultimately,
this trail will also connect to the Warrenton Branch
Greenway and Lord Fairfax Community College, as well as the
proposed Central Sports Complex, to provide safe, off-road
access between these areas.
In June 2008, the
Commonwealth Transportation Board approved funds in the
amount of $66,000 toward this project. It is hoped that
this amount will complete design of the trail. A Standard
Project Administrative Agreement is required by the
Department of Transportation to execute the award.
Per County policy, all
grants must be formally accepted by the Board of
Supervisors.
The Department of
Transportation, Warrenton Trail Connection – Woods of
Warrenton, Standard Project Administrative Agreement is
attached.
A Budget Action Form for
appropriating the grant funds is also attached for approval. |

Matching funding was
approved during the application process and included the
value of property donated by Woods of Warrenton, a
contribution from Fauquier Trails Coalition, staff
administrative time and waived Community Development permit
fees. This action requires no additional financial outlay.
