A Work Session to Receive Information Related to Broadband Services

Topic Description:

Representatives of the County and Blaze Broadband will provide information related to the County’s internal communications network and the state of broadband services to the residents of the County.  Paul Conlin, a representative from Blaze Broadband, will discuss issues associated with providing the residents of Fauquier County with broadbrand services.  Included in the discussion will be a presentation on possible solutions to that issue.  Rick Klinc, the County’s Director of Information Technology, will provide an overview of the County’s internal computer communications system and will discuss the differences between the County’s system and the broadband systems for public use.  Paul McCulla will inform the Board of Supervisors of efforts with the Rappahannock-Rapidan Regional Commission (PD-9) to obtain funding for consulting services related to planning for extending broadband services to the citizens of the County.  Upon completion of the discussion, staff will be asking the Board for guidance regarding the Board’s interest in continuing to explore options for the provision of broadband services to the citizens of the County.
