A Resolution to Authorize a Contract Extension with General Excavation, Inc. for Work at the Warrenton-Fauquier Airport

Topic Description:

Fauquier County is nearing the completion of the Phase One Improvements at the Warrenton-Fauquier Airport.  General Excavation, Inc. has performed well in achieving the project schedule for the revised scope of work.  The contractor is familiar with the site conditions and plans and is in a good position to successfully undertake Phase Two improvements scheduled to begin in the Spring of 2004.  Fauquier County has, on two occasions, received competitive bids for the Phase Two work and has negotiated a contract extension with General Excavation Inc. to undertake this work.  There are advantages to completing this project with one contractor related to the needed coordination between the two phases, familiarity with the site and an understanding of the plans and contract requirements.  After consultation with the consulting engineers, Airport Committee, County Attorney and State and Federal officials, it is believed to be in the County’s best interest to modify the current contract to add work described as Phase Two Runway Improvements.

Requested Action of the Board of Supervisors: 

Consider adoption of the attached resolution.

Financial Impacts Analysis:

Funding for this work is provided by the FAA (90%), Virginia Department of Aviation (8%) and the Airport Enterprise budget (2%).
