A Resolution to Refer to
the Planning commission an Amendment to a Previously Approved
Special Exception for Luck Stone Corporation to Allow Restricted
Use of a Private Road for Deliveries of Construction materials to
the Marsh Run Generation Corporation Peaking Facility Construction
Site Off of
Grasslands
Road
Off of Lucky
Hill
Road

Topic
Description:
|
|
The Luck Stone Corporation has special
exception approval to operate a quarry on several parcels owned by
the company. On
November 15, 1999
, the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors amended a special
exception condition (SE99-L-43) that prohibited use of private
road through the properties to allow for delivery of concrete,
stone, asphalt, turbines and other construction material bound for
the Virginia Power Peaking Facility site on
Lucky Hill Road
(Route 655). The Board
of Supervisors approved the amendment to the Luck Stone
Corporation special exception to alleviate safety concerns
surrounding the transport of the aforementioned materials on
Luck Hill Road
and other nearby public roads.
Marsh Run Generation Corporation (a.k.a. Old
Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC)) soon will begin construction
of an approved peaking facility to the east of the
Grasslands
Road
/
Lucky
Hill Road
intersection. That
firm is seeking to use the private Luck Stone road during the
construction phase for the same type of materials permitted for
the building of the Virginia Power facility.
This proposed amendment would limit the amount of heavy
construction and industrial traffic bound for the Marsh Run site
to a small section of
Lucky
Hill Road
.
Otherwise, the traffic would have to cross a railroad line
off of Route 656 (
Remington
Road
) to
reach
Lucky
Hill Road
or go
through the Town of
Remington
to reach the site.
