Environmental staff are organized into two major sectors: the County Erosion and Sediment Control Program and the County Soil Scientist. The Environmental staff administers the County Erosion and Sediment Control Program. The Environmental staff review and approve the erosion and sediment control plans. An approved erosion and sediment control plan is required prior to the issuance of a land disturbing permit. Environmental also performs bi-monthly erosion and sediment control inspections on all active development projects to ensure that all control measures are properly installed and maintained.
The County Soil Scientist offers a Type I soil interpretation program, which presents a Soil Map and soils analysis for those requesting property owners who are planning their agricultural uses, future ponds or subdividing a portion of their land.
In addition, the Environmental staff provide technical advice and recommendations to the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals regarding land development issues and topics.
Environmental Staff is part of the Zoning & Development Services Division and located on the 3rd floor of the Courthouse building, at 29 Ashby Street in Warrenton. Contact us at 540-422-8240.
