New Baltimore branch delayed, but planning continues
Construction of the New Baltimore branch library, originally slated to begin in 2009, has been postponed until 2016. The new library, planned to be built on a five-acre site on Riley Road next to Auburn Middle School, is one of several Fauquier County projects delayed because of substantial declines in county revenue.
The county’s Board of Supervisors and the library’s Board of Trustees are considering an alternative location for the new library: a 4.4-acre site at the intersection of Brookside Parkway and Boathouse Road in Phase 8 of the Brookside Community development.
The New Baltimore Community Library was designed by Grimm and Parker Architects, Bethesda, Md., to serve the residents of eastern Fauquier County. To date, some site work has been completed, construction and bid documents are 95% complete, and sewer and water taps have been reserved.
