Marshall Feeder Cattle Association Sales now on Tuesdays
Marshall, Va - The Marshall Feeder Cattle Association announced that beginning February 11, 2003 all State Graded Feeder Cattle Sales will be held on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. following the regular sale at the Fauquier Livestock Exchange in Marshall, Virginia. The Graded Feeder Cattle sale offers the buyers the confidence of Official USDA Grades and seller the satisfaction of competitive bidding. Buyers unable to attend the sale can bid via telephone by calling the livestock exchange three hours prior to the sale.
The graded sale is a special feeder cattle sale where the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services inspector grades calves, yearlings, steers and heifers. The grading offers the Marshall Feeder Cattle Association an opportunity to co-mingle with other cattle of similar kind, grade, weight and sex to offer buyers larger groups. One-owner cattle are also accepted and sold as such. "Buyers are looking to fill their trucks, this sale offers farmers, collectively, the opportunity to offer buyers the loads they need" says Ross Poe, Marshall Feeder Cattle Association president. Mr. Poe continues, "buyers really like the quality of cattle produced in the Fauquier County area and they are willing to pay top dollar for them. This graded feeder cattle sale works hard to put the cattle into groups the buyers are looking for."
Board Sales is another offered service during the feeder cattle sale. These direct 'trailer load' sales assure farm fresh quality cattle to feedlots and optimum profit to Virginia cattle producers. Loads include one owner and multiple producers cooperating to form uniform loads. The VDACS grader will grade board sale cattle at the farm.
The Fauquier Livestock Exchange holds weekly livestock sales each Tuesday and horse sales the 2nd Saturday of each month. The Livestock Exchange also hosts the State Graded Feeder Cattle Sale on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month at 7:30 PM. Take-ins are from 7 AM - 12 PM on those Tuesdays. The summer schedule varies slightly in that the Graded Feeder Cattle Sale is held only on the 2nd Tuesday of each month.
The Fauquier Livestock Exchange began operations in 1926 and is located in Marshall, VA at the intersection of Route 709 (Zulla Road) and Route 55 (John Marshall Highway). The Fauquier Livestock Exchange offers numerous other services including buying cattle, on-farm consulting, vaccinating cattle for turnout on grass, rental of sale barn for weighing cattle, sorting and shipping, and pregnancy checking.
