A Work Session to Review a
Report from the Affordable Housing Committee
|
|
Topic Description: |
|
The Board of Supervisors
received a Task Force report in September 2006 and
authorized the formation of an Affordable Housing Fund to
support initiatives designed to maintain and expand the
number of affordable housing units in the County. One of
the recommendations from the report was to complete a needs
assessment and to develop a target number of affordable
units to be achieved to provide a balance of housing types
in the County.
Attached is a summary of the
needs assessment prepared by the Affordable Housing Task
Force. Other attachments provide the full report and
statistical tables. It should also be noted that the recent
significant changes in the real estate market have resulted
in a lowering or stabilization of the market price of
housing. This is a different environment from the period
of 2002 to 2006 when the average assessed value of housing
roughly doubled. It is uncertain how housing costs will
change in the future, however the need for a variety of
housing types and a range of prices remains a desired
objective.
