Weekly Programs

Anime Club - Meet friends to watch Japanese anime, talk about manga, and draw your favorite characters. Snacks provided.

Game On - Join your friends for an afternoon of gaming at the library. Play Nintendo Wii on the big screen or play an old-school board game.

Special Events

Anime Party - Liberty High School Anime Club will host an Anime Party as an end of the school year gathering for its members and a beginning of summer celebration for other teens in the community. The group will screen Hayao Miyazaki’s “Castle in the Sky” and the club will provide Japanese snacks, music, and games; Cosplay (dressing up as a favorite anime or manga character) is encouraged, but optional (all costumes should be rated “PG”).

Viva Piñata Kick-off Party - Celebrate the beginning of the summer reading program by creating your very own candy-filled party animal. This is a two-part workshop. Come the first day to create your creature and choose some great books to read during the summer. Come the second day to paint your party animal and break out the candy.

Digital Recording Studio - Learn to record and mix your own music at home. Musician and sound engineer Thomas MacGregor will demonstrate how to set up a digital recording studio on your home computer and mix music so you sound like a pro. Space is limited, and registration is required. Please call the library to register.

Photo Scavenger Hunt - Bring on the shutterbugs! Creativity and teamwork count as groups complete photo assignments in the time allotted. You do not need to bring a camera to participate.

"Becoming a Character" Fauquier Community Theatre Mini-Workshop - Become a character right out of the pages of a storybook. Charm the crowd as the Cat in the Hat or blow the house down with your Big Bad Wolf. Volunteers from the Fauquier Community Theatre will teach you how to apply makeup, use props, and perform lines with panache. Space is limited, and registration is required. Please call the library to register.

Emo Sock Puppets - Inside every sock is a puppet yearning to break free! Create your very own Goth, Emo, Preppy, Glam or Mutant sock puppet. Socks, music, and other supplies provided.

Collage Art With a Twist - Make a funky, fun creation with friends when you play the collage art game for creative minds “Glue, Paper, Scissors.” You’ll be cutting, pasting, and laughing out loud before the night is through as you create an unexpected and completely collaborative work of art. Materials provided.

Hardware Store Jewelry Workshop - Learn how to create your own hardware store “bling” from items commonly found around the house or in your garage. No need to take apart your sister’s bicycle, though, the library will have all the nuts and bolts required.

Monopoly Tournament - Don’t let the current economy get you down. Buy, sell, and trade in our unofficial mini tournament. Prizes will be awarded and snacks provided.

Summer Creativity Gala - The library will display teen artwork, videos, crafts and writing during this special celebration of teen creativity. All teens are invited to read poetry, play music, sing, or perform stand-up comedy. Teens may also pick a favorite Creativity Challenge to send in. Submit artwork in person, at any Fauquier library, or by e-mailing to libraryteens@fauquiercounty.gov by 5 p.m. Aug. 7. Call Anna Ellis, 439-9728, if you would like to perform at the event.
