Be Creative@ Your Library - Events for Children
Please note that the summer reading program for children concluded Aug. 15.
Baby Steps - Who said only the big kids could have fun at the library? Babies and their caregivers will have fun singing, bouncing, rocking and wiggling to Mother Goose rhymes and new favorites, followed by free play and socialization. Baby toys are provided (and cleaned after each session). For infants up to 13 months old.
- Warrenton Library: 10:30 a.m. Fridays
Half Pints - Get ready to swing into the story time groove with short picture books and a lot of movement. For children 13-24 months old accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Toddler Story Time - Toddlers will enjoy longer stories, finger plays and songs. For children 2 to 3 years old accompanied by a parent or caregiver.

Preschool Story Time - Preschoolers appreciate longer stories, but they still take time to get up and move around while singing songs and learning fingerplays. For preschoolers and rising kindergartners. Parents and caregivers must remain in the library during story time.

Book Buzz - Children will enjoy their favorites books and be introduced to new ones. They'll also have fun making crafts and playing games. For rising 1st - 3rd grade students.

Tween Scene - Students who are not quite old enough for teen programs will have a blast making crafts, doing art projects and science experiments, and playing games during this new program. For rising 4th and 5th grade students.

Paws to Read - Choose a favorite book to read aloud to a trained therapy dog. Signed permission slips, available at the library, are required before participating. For children in grades 1-3.
- John Marshall Library: 4 p.m. 1st Wednesdays of the month
Family Movies - Enjoy recently released to DVD movies and familiar favorites every week. And the popcorn is free! Mmmmm. For all ages.

Farmer Minor and Daisy - Farmer Minor and his pig Daisy will kick off the summer reading program with storytelling about Daisy’s formative years with Farmer Minor and Mrs. Minor. They will share Daisy noises, give Daisy a treat, and talk about her pampered porcine life and how she became the “World’s Most Famous Pig.” Everyone will have a chance to pet (and kiss!) Daisy at the end of the program. The Minors are certified by USDA and insured.

Jim Weiss - The award-winning storyteller and recording artist will captivate children and adults alike with his original stories and his recounting of ancient folktales and myths. Don’t miss out on seeing one of America’s top storytellers. Mr. Weiss’ recordings will be available for purchase after the program.

Stephanie Foerster - Stephanie Foerster will delight and inspire children with imaginative and fun-filled storytelling and activities.

K-9 Unit - Meet the police officers and dogs of the Fauquier County K-9 Unit! Learn about the special equipment used by the unit and watch demonstrations by these well-trained dogs. Weather permitting, the second half of the program will be outside. (This program presented during the Book Buzz programs.)

Community Quilting Story Time - The whole family can “bee creative” during this story time and quilting bee. The Fauquier County Quilters Guild will help families design and color a quilting square. The squares will be made by the guild into fabric blocks for a library quilt.

Magic 4 U by Barry Mitchell - Starring magician Barry Mitchell, this is a fast-paced and amazing magic show for the entire family! Volunteers from the audience will be chosen for this exciting event guaranteed to “Blow Your Mind With Books!”

Family Sock Hop - We’ll wrap up another fun-filled summer with a sock hop for the entire family! Slip off your shoes and be prepared to dance the Chicken Dance, Hokey Pokey, and more.
