Projects

WBG History Manuscript – John Toler has refined a manuscript written by Travis Clements on the history of the Warrenton Branch.

Woods at Warrenton - 58 acres have been acquired with some small sections still needed to provide a trail connection between White’s Mill and Warrenton Chase trails. Design is funded by a TEA grant and is about 90% complete.

Extension of the Warrenton Branch Greenway – acquisition of property to extend the Greenway is underway. TEA grant funding will provide for design and limited construction.

Rappahannock Station - 26 acre property located on the Rappahannock River between the Rappahannock Station I and Rappahannock Station II core Civil War battlefields. The Department has been working with community partners and historical experts to develop a historically and environmentally sensitive river access plan that includes interpretation of the ecological and historical significance of the site. At the November 2012 meeting the Parks and Recreation Board adopted a conceptual interpretive and park site plan resulting from these efforts. Plan can be found at: Rappahannock Station I & II Civil War Battlefield Master Plan (size 7.3 mg) .

Pierce Trail – Transportation Enhancement funding provided to install connection from Pierce Elementary School to Lee’s Glen Subdivision.

Safe Routes to School - $500,000 grant to develop safe routes for children to walk/bicycle to school and access facilities after school hours
