Official Notice Voter Registration Deadline and In-Person Absentee Voting


The voter registration deadline is always 29 days before the election. The voter registration application must be postmarked (or delivered to the Registrar or DMV) no later than 29 days before the primary or general election in which you plan to vote. However, if you are already registered to vote at your current address, you do not need to re-apply for voter registration. Please note that beginning on January 1, 2010 the voter registration deadline will change to 21 days before the election.

In-person Absentee Voting:


Begins daily at the above location 45 days before the November general election and 30 days before other elections.

Monday through Friday 8:00a.m. to 4:30p.m.
On the last Saturday before town, primary and special elections from 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.
On the last two Saturdays before November general election from 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.

NOTE: Normal in-person absentee voting ends at the close of business on the last Saturday immediately preceding the Tuesday election date.


Voter Registration Deadlines

If you have moved recently, you must update your voter registration record with the Registrar before the voter registration deadline. For any change to your voter registration record please download and complete the voter registration application, or call the Registrar at 540-347-6972 or e-mail your name and address and a voter registration application will be sent to you.

If you will be away from Fauquier County on election day, or if you are unable to go to the polls because of illness or disability, you can vote by absentee ballot. Please email, telephone or fax your name and address, and an absentee ballot application will be sent to you. The completed absentee ballot application must be received in the Registrar’s Office no later than 5:00p.m. the Tuesday before the election date to be able to mail you a ballot. In-person absentee voting is also available; for more information call the Registrar at 540-347-6972.


Voters - verify your status online at www.sbe.state.va.us !
To ensure privacy and security a PIN must first be obtained through the Department of Motor Vehicles web site at www.dmv.state.va.us.
Online applications for PIN's will be processed and the PIN will be mailed to the Citizen's home address.
