Former Sheriff

Ashby W. Olinger


It is with deep sadness the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office announces the death of former Sheriff Ashby W. Olinger. Sheriff Olinger died at his home in Fauquier County Friday night, January 18, 2013, after a brief illness.

He joined the sheriff’s office in January 1968 at a time when the department only had seven deputies and 4 dispatchers. He was eventually elected sheriff in November 1983 and served two terms from January 1984 to 1991.

Even in retirement Ashby was a friend to the sheriff’s office family and was seen around the office from time to time. He will be greatly missed.
