Sponsored by Department of Social Services

History:
- The vehicle donation program has been in existence in Fauquier County since April 1996. It was established as a way to help people help themselves. The program provides the means to accept a working donated vehicle, perform basic repairs if necessary, and pass the vehicle on to a low-income Fauquier County family. A dependable vehicle improves the recipient's ability to work, to be a productive member of the community, to care for the needs of a family, and to carry out daily activities.
Program Goals
- To obtain serviceable or economically repairable vehicles that can be transferred to needy and low-income families in Fauquier County.
- To provide maintenance training and a reliabel service-support program that will assist the recipients of a vehicle.
Who Is Involved
- Members of the greater Fauquier community including:
- The Fauquier Department of Social Services
- Local business and community partners
- You, the individual citizen
Why Should I Donate?
- All vehicles donated are tax deductable up to the "Blue Book" value.
- Public transportation in Fauquier County is extrememly limited. The donation of a car can give families a means to move one step closer to self-reliance. A dependable vehicle is necessary for people to get to and from jobs, medical appointments, grocery stores, and other daily activities.
- The donated cars received to date have helped to strengthen the family structure of the recipients. In addition to helping the parents attain better employment, a vehicle can also open up more opportunities to children. They are able to participate in after school programs, sports, and other extra curricular activities.
- One recipient of a donated vehicle was able to return to work, and later was able to attain a newer vehicle. The recipient then donated the original vehicle back to the program in order to help another family. One vehicle made a difference for two families.
How Do I Donate?
- Do you have a vehicle in good condition that you would like to donate? Do you work for a repair facility that can donate labor? Are you part of a business that has a fleet of cars and is getting ready to replace some? Do you want to make a financial contribution?
- Contact the Department of Social Services (540) 347-2316 and ask to speak to a representative from the Vehicle Donation Program. The representative will set up an appointment for you, at your convenience, to bring the vehicle and proof of ownership (the title) to a designated business partner location. There, pertinent vehicle information will be verified and the necessary paperwork completed.
- Available copies of service records would be appreciated.
- If we are unable to find a recipient for your donated vehicle, we may offer your donation to another non-profit organization within our community.
