This course will introduce students to the Okinawan karate style of Shorin-ryu Matsumura Seito karate, which is one of the oldest styles in Okinawa, the birthplace of all karate.' Material to be covered will be warm-ups and conditioning (Junbi Undo), basic techniques (Kihon) and combinations, and progress to beginning forms of the style (Kata) as well as pre-arranged partner drills.' Students will also learn about Okinawan culture and will develop better coordination, balance, confidence, and discipline.' The instructor, Walt Young, has been training in Okinawan karate since 1989 and this style since 2000, and he has lived in Okinawa as well as mainland Japan. He is a licensed teacher of the style and is currently the senior practitioner of the Okinawa Shorin-ryu Matsumura Seito Suiken Bugei Kai (Martial Arts Association).
