This course will introduce students to the art of Okinawan weaponry; in particular Ufuchiku-Den Ryukyu Kobujutsu which is one of the oldest and rarest of the Okinawan weapon styles as well as one of the most complete systems featuring 25 various weapons.' Students will progress through the various weapons over time and will learn basics (Kihon), Striking drills (Uchikumi), partner drills, and forms (Kata) for each of the weapons. The instructor, Walt Young, has been training in Okinawan kobudo since 1989 and this particular style since 2011 when he moved to Okinawa, Japan.' He is currently the only foreign, direct student of the current headmaster of the style, Isa Kaishu (10th degree black belt), and was the first person ever to receive official permission to open a branch school (Shibu Dojo) of the head school (Honbu Dojo).'
