LARRY W. MILLER DAY
July 31, 2019
WHEREAS, Larry W. Miller has elected to retire as Fauquier County’s Parks and Recreation Director effective August 1, 2019; and
WHEREAS, Larry Miller developed and opened the Marshall, Warrenton, and Vint Hill Community Centers along with Crockett, Northern Fauquier, Monroe, and Riverside Parks to provide countless activities and opportunities to improve the health and well-being of individuals; and
WHEREAS, over the last 34 years, Larry grew the Department by adding numerous programs and classes based on the public’s request; and
WHEREAS, Larry was instrumental in bringing the Warrenton Caboose to downtown and established the first Safety Town in the county in addition to creating the County’s first disc golf course and so many magnanimous projects too numerous to list; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Miller’s benevolence will be long-remembered by all those who utilize the parks, community centers, and all the amenities he worked tirelessly to bring to fruition; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Fauquier County, as well as those who travel from other localities to attend special functions, events, and family gatherings at these sites, have Larry to thank for his dedication to enhancing the quality of life for all residents; and
WHEREAS, Larry has earned a rest from all his hard work, meetings, and unending devotion to his job to now relax, shift to a slower pace, retire “the green pen,” and leisurely enjoy all of the amenities, programs, and facilities the County has to offer without watching the clock because “I have a meeting to go to”;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Fauquier County Parks and Recreation Board congratulates Larry W. Miller on his accomplishments and extends its heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to him for a job well done;
BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED that the Fauquier County Parks and Recreation Board does hereby designate and proclaim Wednesday, July 31, 2019, as Larry W. Miller Day in Fauquier County and calls upon all citizens to call, email, or stop by to see Larry Miller on his special day to wish him a happy and healthy retirement and the best in all future endeavors.
