Mary Leigh McDaniel, Marshall District Supervisor

Biographical Sketch

Mary Leigh McDaniel, CPA/PFS

Mary Leigh McDaniel graduated from Warren County High School in 1971. She continued her education at James Madison University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Finance.   Ms. McDaniel has more than thirty years’ experience as a Certified Public Accountant, formerly with two local firms Scheulen & Patchett, as well as Drunagel Johnson Rutherford & Wilkins.  She is currently managing partner of the accounting firm of Updegrove McDaniel McMullen & Chiccehitto, PLC.

Ms. McDaniel was elected to the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors on behalf of the Marshall Magisterial District in 2016.  She served two years as Vice Chair in 2018-2019.  Ms. McDaniel was re-elected for a second term of office beginning in January 2020 and currently presides as the Board Chair.  Ms. McDaniel also sits on the Fauquier County Broadband Authority, Facilities Planning and Implementation Committee, Finance Committee, Personnel Committee and Route 50 Traffic Calming Task Force. 

Ms. McDaniel is active in the community.  She has served as an officer and board member of various civic and non-profit organizations, including the PATH Foundation Board, the Fauquier Hospital Board, the Board of Directors of Middleburg Financial Corporation and Access Bank, and on the Land Trust of Virginia Board.   Ms. McDaniel was appointed by Governor Kaine to the Vint Hill Economic Development Authority, and in 2009 she was named the Business Person of the Year by the Fauquier County Chamber of Commerce. 

Ms. McDaniel and her husband Earl “Kit” Hawkins have two grown children, Heather McDaniel Neff and Chris Hawkins.  In her free time she enjoys reading, gardening, running and spending time with her two grandchildren.
