Scott Hook is the Commonwealth’s Attorney for Fauquier County. Since earning his Juris Doctor from Seton Hall University School of Law in 2006, he has applied his extensive experience – as the Town Prosecutor for the Town of Warrenton and in private practice for more than a decade – to vigorously enforce the law and confront the primary challenges facing the community – most especially the opioid epidemic.

While practicing law in Warrenton, Scott represented people and businesses in all areas of the law. He successfully tried numerous jury trials in Fauquier County and the surrounding jurisdictions. His deep connection to the community helps to provide a unique insight to any matter – from the smallest traffic violation to multi-million dollar lawsuits.

Raised in the community, Scott and his family call Warrenton home. He attends St. James Episcopal Church, and for six years served on the Board of Directors for the Fauquier County Chamber of Commerce while also contributing to a handful of other local organizations, such as the SPCA.

Jamey is originally from Texas and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a B.A. Government in 1997.  After graduation, Jamey worked as a legislative and administrative aide to State Representative Bill Siebert until attending law school at the Texas Tech University School of Law (J.D. ‘99).  While obtaining her law degree, Jamey interned at various district attorney’s offices throughout Texas including Lubbock County, Denton County and Dallas County.  In her first job, at the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, Jamey was assigned to the Family Violence division and worked primarily with victims of domestic abuse seeking protective orders in the civil district courts. 

In 2001, Jamey began working in Houston, Texas, at the Harris County District Attorney’s Office which is one of the largest prosecutor’s offices in the nation.  As one of nearly 300 attorneys, Jamey tried a significant number of jury trials in serious felony matters including murder, aggravated robbery and sexual assault.  She served as a Chief Prosecutor in various misdemeanor courts but spent most of her time in the General Trial Division, Child Abuse Division and the Family Criminal Law Division.  In 2006, Jamey was awarded an Outstanding Service Award for her service on behalf of crime victims.

In 2007, Jamey moved to Virginia and continued her career in public service.  Hired by long-time Fauquier County Commonwealth’s Attorney Jonathan Lynn, Jamey began as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney but was quickly promoted to Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney in 2008 and has served in that position ever since.  She continues to handle all matters including those in the Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court, the General District Court and the Circuit Court while serving as a member of the Northern Virginia Child Fatality Review Team, the Fauquier County Intra-agency SART Team and DCJS certified trainer of law enforcement. 

Jamey lives with her family in Prince William County, Virginia.

Abbey is originally from Atlanta and graduated from the University of Mississippi with a B.A. in Political Science in 2005. While at Ole Miss, Abbey was very involved in her school and the community, serving as President of her sorority and volunteering as a tutor in a local after-school program. She went on to law school at the University of Mississippi and graduated with a J.D. in 2008.

While obtaining her law degree, Abbey interned at the Office of the District Attorney for the First Circuit Court District in Mississippi, which serves seven counties, and in the Cyber Crime division of the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office. Following graduation from law school, she was admitted to the bar in Virginia. In her first job, at the Danville Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Abbey was assigned to the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court where she prosecuted numerous juvenile cases, many involving gang activity, as well as crimes of domestic violence. 

In 2009, Abbey joined the Fauquier County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney and now serves as a Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney.  She prosecutes cases in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, the General District Court, and the Circuit Court, focusing primarily on cases of narcotics trafficking as well as crimes of violence, including sexually violent offenses, home invasions, and murders. Abbey enjoys working with law enforcement from various agencies, is certified by the Department of Criminal Justice to train law enforcement, and has conducted numerous trainings for local and state law enforcement officers. She is trained to conduct forensic interviews of children and serves as the coordinator for the county’s Sexual Assault Response Team. In 2013, Abbey was recognized for her superior service to victims of crime.

Abbey lives with her family and her dog, Mosby, in Culpeper, Virginia.

Charles K. Peters is a Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for Fauquier County.  His responsibilities include prosecuting cases in all Fauquier Courts and include many of the most serious felonies.  Mr. Peters has a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from George Mason University School of law, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from George Mason School of Business, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering from Tulane University.  In addition, Mr. Peters has graduated from the FBI Academy, University of Virginia’s Senior Executive Institute, DEA Drug Commander School, and the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy.

Mr. Peters completed nearly 30 years with the Fairfax County Police Department rising through the ranks from Patrol Officer to Deputy Chief of an organization with 2,000 employees.  During his career, Mr. Peters was the Chief Pilot and Commander of the Police Medevac Helicopter Division, Commander of the Mason District Police Station, and Gang Investigation Division as well as many other assignments.  Following his retirement from FCPD in October 2010, Mr. Peters joined the Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Office and began a new career prosecuting criminal cases.  In January 2016, he joined the Fauquier County Commonwealth’s Attorney Office as the Senior Assistant.  During his career, Mr. Peters has been directly involved in several of the biggest cases in this region including the CIA shootings and DC Sniper murders.

Mr. Peters is a member of the bar of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the District of Columbia.  He is also a member of the bar of the United States District Courts of Eastern and Western Virginia, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Mr. Peters has been involved in aviation most of his life.  In addition to being Chief Pilot for Fairfax County, he holds Airline Transport Pilot and Instructor licenses for both airplanes and helicopters.  He has also served as a Designated FAA Pilot Examiner.

Mr. Peters grew up in Fairfax County and has lived in Fauquier County for over 25 years.

Amy M. Cassandra is a Senior Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney and has been with the office since 2012.  Prior to becoming a prosecutor, Ms. Cassandra was in private practice and also took court-appointed criminal defense cases while working as a third-year practicing law student in D.C. Superior Court. 

Ms. Cassandra is currently the Senior Assistant overseeing cases in the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court (JDR).  She also sits on committees related to domestic violence and juvenile justice, and also the JDR bench-bar liaison committee with the Fauquier County Bar Association.  In addition to these roles, she handles a wide variety of cases, including: violent crime, sex crimes, drug possession and distribution, DUIs, and traffic fatalities to name a few.  She is committed to ongoing education in the best practices of prosecution, plus leading yearly and periodic training for law enforcement officers in Fauquier. 

Ms. Cassandra received her undergraduate degree from Northern Michigan University and her Juris Doctorate from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.  She has a passion for advocating for victims and working with law enforcement to keep our community a great place to live.  Ms. Cassandra was the recipient of the Victim’s Rights Service Award in 2017.  Ms. Cassandra grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, but now lives in Fauquier with her husband, Adam, and their children.

Nichole was born and raised in Upstate New York. She lived several places around the United States and overseas before settling in Virginia when her husband retired from the United States Marine Corps. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a degree in Social Work and Bowie State University with a Master’s in Education. Nichole volunteered in her community while raising her family and then worked in higher education for several years. She left her role in higher education to pursue her lifelong goal of earning a law degree.

Ms. Geisenhof earned her J.D. at George Mason School of Law in 2020. While at Mason she served on the boards of the Trial Advocacy, Pro Bono, and Alternative Dispute Resolution Societies and was a member of the Military Law Society. Nichole participated in several internships throughout law school to include a semester with The Innocence Project, two placements with the Fredericksburg Office of the Public Defender, and a semester with D.C. Superior Court. In her last year of law school Nichole interned with the Fauquier County Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney.

After being admitted to the Bar in 2020 Ms. Geisenhof began her employment as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Fauquier County. Ms. Geisenhof handles a wide variety of cases, including DUIs, traffic fatalities, drug crimes, and violent crimes. She has received extensive training in the prosecution of DUIs and traffic fatalities. Additionally, she is trained to conduct forensic interviews of children.

 

 

Sharon

 

Sharon L. Blevins

Sharon L. Blevins is a Fauquier County native. After graduating from Fauquier High School in 2016 she attended George Mason University, earning her B.A. in global affairs and Spanish. Ms. Blevins graduated from GMU in 2019 and began attending William & Mary Law School in 2020.

While in law school Sharon served as the President of the agricultural law society and worked as a student research fellow for the National Agricultural Law Center. Ms. Blevins also served as a research assistant to her criminal law professor, Paul Marcus. She conducted research on criminal conspiracy law to support Mr. Marcus’ publication on the subject, The Prosecution and Defense of Criminal Conspiracy Cases. Sharon was a staff member on the Bill of Rights Journal for two years at William & Mary. During her last summer as a law student Sharon interned at the Warrenton Office of the Public Defender.

Sharon has always had a passion for criminal law, and she is proud to return to her hometown to serve the citizens of Fauquier.

 

 

 James

 

James H. Hays

Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney

James was born in Illinois and lived in San Antonio, Texas before his family moved to Fairfax County, Virginia in 2005. He graduated from West Potomac High School in 2014 and enrolled as a history major at James Madison University, where he graduated with a B.A. in 2018. James’s studies focused on British history and classical antiquity. After graduating from JMU, in 2019 James enrolled as a graduate student at the University of Exeter in Exeter, England, graduating with an M.A. in 2020. His thesis focused on the diplomatic and economic relations among the United States, Canada, and Britain during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

After attaining his M.A., James enrolled as a law student at William & Mary Law School in 2021. As a law student he was a member of the William & Mary Moot Court team, participating in competitions around the country. James wrote for William & Mary’s Bill of Rights Journal, with his second-year note focusing on the historical implications of the United States Supreme Court’s recent Bruen decision. As a law student he interned at the Office of the Public Defender in Winchester, Virginia and the Federal Communications Commission. 

In his free time James enjoys going for walks, swimming, weightlifting, and reading about history, religion, and philosophy.

 

 

William Perkins

Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney

William Perkins, a Richmond, Virginia native, earned a B.A. in Communications and Spanish from James Madison University. After graduating, he worked at the Virginia Criminal Sentencing Commission in Richmond, an experience that inspired him to pursue a career in law.

William attended the Appalachian School of Law, graduating in May 2024. While at ASL, he received recognition for his contributions as a Student Ambassador and earned Certificates in both Criminal and Civil Litigation. He also collaborated with the Medical Legal Partnership at ASL, providing vital legal services to underserved communities in Southwest Virginia and Tennessee.

During law school, William gained practical experience through internships with the Office of the Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia and Regan, Zambri, Long, PLLC, a private personal injury firm.

In his free time, William enjoys live music and attending shows.

 

Daniel

Daniel L. Swanwick

Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney

Daniel L. Swanwick is a native of Kansas who has called Fauquier County home since 2011. Prior to becoming a prosecutor, he spent 17 years with the U.S. Department of Justice.

Dan earned his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in linguistics and computer science from Duke University, and his J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center. During law school, he served as the article selection editor for the Georgetown Immigration Law Journal, and he satisfied the requirements for the school’s Certificate in Refugees and Humanitarian Emergencies.

Upon graduation from law school, Dan joined the Department of Justice through the Attorney General’s Honors Program. He has held a wide variety of roles in the nation’s immigration court system, including as a Temporary Appellate Immigration Judge. He also served for six months as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia. Dan’s most recent position at the Department of Justice was supervising a team of attorneys at the Board of Immigration Appeals.

Dan enjoys cooking, hanging out with his kids, and reading.

Doug

 

Douglas B. Rogers

With great sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of Douglas B. Rogers on December 12, 2022.  Doug had been an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney since January of 2017.  During that time, he handled thousands of misdemeanors, felonies and specialized in animal cruelty & seizure cases.  Doug was a treasured member of the Office and was known for his dry sense of humor and witty one-liners, his kindness, his respect for law enforcement and his absolute willingness to do anything for anyone.  He was always the first to volunteer, no matter how big or small the task.

Doug graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in May 2016. While in law school, he participated in the prosecution clinic and interned with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Virginia.

Prior to attending law school, Doug served in the United States Army for over ten years as an Infantry Officer. His first assignment was to 1-506 Air Assault Battalion in South Korea as a rifle platoon leader and a recon platoon leader. His next operational assignment was to the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In the 82nd, Doug served as an assistant Battalion Operations officer and an Airborne Infantry company commander while completing three tours in Iraq. Doug’s awards include two Bronze Stars and a Meritorious Service medal. Doug also graduated from numerous Army schools, including Ranger School, the Jumpmaster Course, and the Basic Mandarin Chinese course.

Victim/Witness Case Manager

In 2012, Lori Jones became the Victim-Witness case manager for crimes against children and other vulnerable victims at the Office of the Fauquier County Commonwealth's Attorney.

Formerly she served for 8 years as a Fairfax County Police Officer.  She received her training at NOVA and was placed on the Crisis Response Team.

Lori is a graduate of the Virginia Victim Assistance Academy which certified her as a national Advocate allowing her to provide services to those victimized by crime. She is also an active member of the National Organization for Victim Assistance.

Lori brought Fauquier County its first Courthouse Dog, Lincoln. Lincoln underwent a 2-year training process by Saint Francis Service Dogs, paid for by non-profit charitable contributions, and trained with investigative and trial teams in order to comfort vulnerable victims through the trauma of trial.

A lifelong Virginian, Lisa grew up in Fairfax and attended Virginia Tech where she earned a B.A. in English.

While working in Washington, DC, and its surrounding areas, Lisa gained decades of specialized, professional experience in the fields of information security, school administration, and public relations.

Lisa joined the Fauquier County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office in 2019. As part of the management team, she oversees office and governmental operations as well as the work product of legal support staff.
