April 15, 2020 - Governor Ralph Northam announced that he will extend Executive Order Fifty-Three for two weeks, through Friday, May 8, 2020.

Executive Order Fifty-Three - originally signed on March 24, bans crowds of more than 10 people; closes recreation, entertainment, and personal care businesses; and limits restaurants to offering takeout and delivery services only.

“As we have seen from our data and models, social distancing is working, and we are slowing the spread of this virus,” said Governor Northam. “But it is too early to let up. By extending this order to keep certain businesses closed or restricted, we can continue to evaluate the situation and plan for how to eventually ease restrictions so that our businesses may operate without endangering public health.”






  • All government meeting rooms are closed to non-governmental meeting uses effective immediately

  • Sheriff’s Office public events, off-duty staffing and car seat installation/inspection is temporarily suspended

  • The Board of Supervisors’ work session meeting scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at 2:00 pm is cancelled

  • The Planning Commission public hearings have been cancelled through May 2020. 

  • The Board of Zoning and Appeals public hearings have been cancelled through May 2020. 

  • In transacting business with the County, citizens are strongly encouraged to complete their transactions online or via the phone. Checks for payments may be placed in the mail rather than being paid in person or you can pay for services online. If you must visit a County department, please call prior to your visit. Fauquier County Clerk's OfficeOpen for limited essential services, such as recording deeds, issuing marriage licenses, recording wills, etc..  We are issuing marriage licenses by appointment only as well as probating wills by appointment only.  Our land records can be recorded electronically with prior vendor registration or by mail.  We are discouraging walk in recordings because of the interaction it requires between my staff and the public. Documents may be mailed to 29 Ashby Street, Warrenton, VA 20186.

Our hours remain 8:00 to 4:30 M-F, with a cut-off of land records at 3:30 PM each day. Citizens with questions should check the Circuit Court Clerk’s website or call 540-422-8100, to speak to staff.

Fauquier County Community Development: Temporary closure. In response to the COVID-19, Fauquier County Community Development will be closed to the public starting March 19, 2020. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Community Developments makes the safety of our customers, vendors, employees, and community its top priority.  Customers with questions are encouraged to call 540-422-8200. 

Fauquier County GIS Mapping: Temporary Closure. In response to the COVID-19, Fauquier County GIS Department will be closed to the public starting March 19, 2020. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. The GIS Department makes the safety of our customers, vendors, employees, and community its top priority.   Customers with questions are encouraged to call 540-422-8260. Please rely on email and phone communication to request maps, data, addressing, and additional support on GIS related matters. 

Fauquier County Environmental Services: Effective, Wednesday, March 25, 2020 the Fauquier County Environmental Services Administrative Office will be closed to the public. The health and safety of our customers and staff is our number one priority.  Please either mail, fax, or email all new disposal account or permits for processing to the office. Customers with questions are encouraged to call 540-422-8840 or email

At this time, the Transfer Station and Residential Collection Sites will continue to accept trash and recyclables during regular business hours.  Our staff will be onsite to help residents who are in need of assistance but we encourage residents who are able to please self-unload.  Extra precautions to protect staff and the community we service have been put in place. 

Fauquier County Human Resources: May 20, 2020: The Human Resources Department is open for business! The office is currently closed to the public, however our team is still available to assist you. You can reach us at 540-422-8300 Monday-Friday from 8:00AM-4:30PM.

Please refrain from visiting us if are not feeling well or experiencing any of the following symptoms: fever, coughing or shortness of breath. We recommend you cancel and reschedule your visit.  We will help you reschedule any appointments when you are better.

Effective May 6th, our office remains closed to the public until June 7th, following the decision of the Virginia Supreme Court. If you are a party in a pending matter in any of Fauquier's courts, please feel free to contact us to determine if your matter is still being heard and/or to receive the new court date. You may also search online for Fauquier County General District Court Case Information to view the court's website. Our office will have minimal staff on hand until May 17th to process any voicemails or physical mail received.

Fauquier County Parks & Recreation: May 20, 2020: Larry Weeks Community Pool Update:
Due to restrictions based on health and safety related to COVID-19, the pool will not open Memorial Day weekend. Staff have developed various opening scenarios which are currently under review.

APRIL 2, 2020 - FCPR continues to place the safety and health of our community and staff as our highest priority as we closely monitor the daily developments around the COVID-19 (coronavirus).

FACILITIES: All facilities will continue to remain closed to the public until further notice. Facilities include community centers, historical buildings, park offices, all playgrounds, all athletic fields, boat rentals, concession stands, pavilions and pavilion rentals, public restrooms, and portable toilets.

PROGRAMS: All programs through June 30th, 2020, are cancelled

Fauquier County Public LibrariesClosed all libraries effective today, March 16, 2020 at 5:00 pm. Beginning Wednesday, March 18, the Library will begin phone and curbside services at all Library locations.]

Book drops will be closed. No fines will be charged during this time. The library will aggressively promote e-resources and online services. Library staff will continue to work regular hours to accommodate the curbside service and to perform other tasks as assigned.

The closure and services available will be advertised through the library and county websites, email to subscribers of library’s newsletter, press release to local media, and posts to social media.

  • School Closure Extended:  Governor Northam just announced that all Virginia K-12 schools are to remain closed for the rest of this school year. The state will provide us guidance regarding graduation, grades and continuity of learning. We will share that information with you as soon as possible. Thank you for your continued support throughout this unprecedented situation.

  • FCPS Grab-and-Go Meal Program Begins March 23:  Fauquier County Public Schools will provide grab-and-go meals for students from 10:30 a.m. – noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays beginning March 23, 2020.  Each day of the program, students will be offered two sacks of food, each containing breakfast and lunch. Full participation in the program will provide students with up to six breakfast and lunch meals per week. Read more details here.

Fauquier County Social Services: Temporary closure. In response to COVID-19, Fauquier County Department of Social Services (DSS) will be closed to the public starting March 18, 2020. The agency will continue to provide services and accept Child Protective Services (CPS)/Adult Protective Services (APS) referrals. Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office: Temporary Changes in Response to COVID-19 Coronavirus Response to calls for service.

  • Deputies are directed to use social distancing to avoid unnecessary physical contact with anyone not under arrest.  This may include keeping a distance of six feet or more when possible and avoiding shaking hands with members of the public
  • Deputies may wear Personal Protective Equipment such as masks and gloves when physical contact is necessary
  • Deputies may take offense reports via phone, rather than in person, when possible

Temporary Changes in Office Services:

  • Sheriff’s Office public events i.e.: town halls, community programs, have been temporarily suspended
  • Fingerprinting and car seat installation/inspection are suspended
  • We are unable to accept food donations at the Sheriff’s Office at this time
  • Office visits, tours, ride-along program are suspended
  • Off-duty staffing of special events is suspended

The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office takes the health of our deputies, staff and our community seriously.  Due to the on-going spread of the coronavirus, we have made these changes to protect our deputies and the community.  

The Sheriff’s Office will continue to work with our local, state and federal partners during this time and we will continue to ensure public safety is our top priority in Fauquier County. 

Fauquier County Treasurer's Office: In response to COVID-19, the Treasurer's office will be closed to the public starting March 19, 2020, until further notice.

John Marshall Soil & Water Conservation District: Due to concerns about COVID-19, the John Marshall SWCD office is currently CLOSED TO ALL VISITORS.  Staff will be rotating in and out of the office and because of this may be delayed in responding to phone calls and voicemail messages.  It may be faster to get in contact with us by sending an email to or by emailing staff directly.

Lord Fairfax Community College: Spring Break through 3/16/20 due to the global spread of coronavirus. Beginning 3/17/20 most classes will move online.

Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue: In response to COVID-19, The Office of the Commissioner of the Revenue will be closed to the public starting March 19, 2020 until further notice.

We urge you to use the Commissioner’s website. Simply use the left side menu to easily access all forms. Feel free to contact us by phone with any questions. Our staff will be happy to assist you and We are able to receive necessary documents via email,fax or good old reliable mail.  

Warrenton Aquatic and Recreation Facility (WARF):The Town of Warrenton has closed the WARF for the next two weeks and will re-evaluate during that time.

Effective July 1st, 2014 - Fauquier County launched a new emergency notification system, Fauquier Alert Network (FAN) provided by Everbridge. Everbridge will be replacing the existing system, CodeRED. Everbridge is a web based service that enables the County to provide mass notification quickly and easily. Notifications may include evacuations, missing person alerts, hazardous materials incident, flooding, and other emergency incidents where rapid and accurate notification is essential for life safety. Messages are delivered by phone call, text and email. The caller id will say "Fauquier County" and/or "540-422-8830".

Registering your information in Everbridge is optional but encouraged to ensure citizens receive timely information. You are required to create a user name and password. This allows you to log into the system to update your information and preferences.
