How to Prepare for Recycling:

  •  Clean – no food
  •  Recycle separately from aluminum and steel cans.
  •  Aluminum products such as tin foil, yogurt lids, pie plates, roasting pans, candy wrappers, tinsel, garland, etc. are accepted.

Did you know?

Not all aluminum foil looking packaging is aluminum but a metalized plastic film.  Do the scrunch test and find out.  Scrunch the foil in your hand, if it springs back, it is not aluminum foil and should not be collected for recycling. (recyclenow.com) Even the metal screw top lids from wine bottles and the foil packaging from cigarette packs can be recycled as aluminum foil.

Why Recycle?

Aluminum foil can be recycled over and over again similar to the aluminum can though through a different heat process.

It takes an incredible amount of energy to make a roll of aluminum.  Recycling aluminum foil provides material to make recycled aluminum, saving 95% of the energy used to produce foil from raw bauxite.   (US Department of State Aluminum Task Force) Consider buying 100 percent recycled aluminum foil. This way, you can support a process that uses five percent less energy than the traditional aluminum foil manufacturing process. It might cost a little more, but you are helping the environment in another way. (earth911)
