The Accounting division produces a financial report in accordance with Section 15.2-2511 of the Code of Virginia, which requires that all local governments publish within six months of the close of each fiscal year a complete set of audited financial statements presented in conformity with accounting principles generally accepted (GAAP) in the United States as established by the Governmental Accounting Standards Board.  

The Annual Comprehensive Financial Report is submitted annually to the Government Finance Officers Association and the "Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting" has been awarded to Fauquier County every year since fiscal year 1998.
