County Employees

All permanent Fauquier County Government employees are eligible for leave. The types of leave include annual, sick, personal, civil and bereavement.

Annual Leave

  • Earned on the 2nd payroll of each month.
  • The rate in which leave is earned is based on your years of service.
  • Leave increments increase at 5, 10, 15 and 20 years of service.
  • Any Annual leave over the maximum amount allowed will be transferred to Sick leave on December 31st of each year.

Sick Leave

  • Earned on the 2nd payroll of each month.
  • Employees earn one day of sick leave per month.

Personal Leave

  • Earned July 1st of each year.
  • All employees earn 2 days per year which must be used by June 30th of the following year. This leave will not rollover; any remaining balance on June 30th will be removed.

Civil Leave

  • May be used for when an employee is summoned for jury duty or subpoenaed for court.
  • There is no limit on the number of days and employee can use Civil Leave.
  • Employee must provide proper documentation to supervisor prior to leave.

Bereavement Leave

  • May be used when an employee has a death in the family. For a list of approved relationships, please see the Bereavement Leave Policy.
  • Employees are given up to 4-days for Bereavement Leave.

County employees request leave via Fauquier ePortal or department specific time keeping system.

All permanent Fauquier County Public Schools employees are eligible for leave. The types of leave include sick, personal, civil and bereavement. In addition, 12-month contract employees are also eligible for annual leave.

Annual Leave

  • Earned July 1st of each year for 12-month employees only.
  • Any Annual leave over the maximum amount allowed will be transferred to Sick leave on June 30th of each year.

Sick Leave

  • Earned July 1st of each year.
  • Employees earn one day of sick leave per contract month.

Personal Leave

  • Earned July 1st of each year.
  • All employees earn 3 days per year.
  • Employees can rollover up to 2 days of leave per year for a maximum of 5 days.

Civil Leave

  • May be used for when an employee is summoned for jury duty or subpoenaed for court.
  • There is no limit on the number of days and employee can use Civil Leave.
  • Employee must provide proper documentation to supervisor prior to leave.

Bereavement Leave

  • Employees are given up to 3 days for Bereavement Leave.

 School employees request leave via AESOP or Fauquier ePortal depending on position.
