Plan Your Visit to Northern Fauquier Community Park
Our park takes shelter and facility reservations one year in advance. Reservations for the 2026 season are now being accepted!

Upcoming 2026 Rental Season: April 4 – November 1, 2026

Park Amenities & Accessibility

• Bathrooms are currently closed for the Winter season and will re-open approximately April 4, depending on weather conditions.
• Four portable toilets will be available throughout the park for your convenience and will be in place through March 2026. In season, there is one portable toilet on the East end of the park, by the volleyball courts.
• Enjoy the outdoors year-round with scenic hiking and biking on paved trails, or bring your furry friend (leashes required!) for a walk.
• Play, explore, and make new friends at any of our three fun playgrounds!
• Rent one of our beautiful shelters for the 2026 season for reunions, company picnics, birthday parties, etc!

Please Remember: The park closes at dusk every day.

Shelter Reservations
Reservations can be taken one year in advance! The park is taking reservations for the upcoming 2026 season.

Secure your spot for special gatherings! Shelter reservation requests can be made online, in person, or by mail.

• To reserve online, create a Parks and Recreation account on our Home Page. Simply click the "Reserve a Shelter" tab on the left side.
• Reservations are also accepted at our Community Centers or directly at the Northern Fauquier Community Park office.
• For groups over 75 people, a Special Event Permit is required. Please submit the application and obtain approval from the Park Manager at least 20 days in advance.

Fishing at the Park
Enjoy peaceful fishing at our two ponds! A Virginia State fishing license is required, except for youth 15 and under.
Catch bass, carp, catfish, sunfish, and perch—please release bass and carp back into the ponds. Help us keep the ponds beautiful by disposing of fishing line, bait, and hooks in designated trash receptacles.

Youth-Only Trout Fishing in April
The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources has scheduled Youth Trout Stocking in the month of April. The youth fishing area is located at the small pond near the park office—perfect for young anglers!

Youth Trout Fishing Stock Dates are: April 1 and April 16.

The small pond is open to everyone when Youth Trout Fishing is not in season. 

Play and Sports

• Volleyball Courts: Two sandy courts are available for fun and friendly competition! First come, first served when not reserved for leagues. Located on the east end near Lakeview Shelter (courts may be covered during winter).
• Four diamond baseball/softball fields for team use
• Four rectangle football/soccer fields for team use

About Northern Fauquier Community Park
Nestled on the outskirts of Marshall, Virginia, our award-winning 88-acre park offers a beautiful landscape perfect for exercise, picnics, and outdoor fun. Features include picnic shelters, an amphitheater, meeting room, athletic fields, playgrounds, a 1.75-mile paved trail, indoor restrooms, and fishing ponds.

Thanks to a generous $14 million donation from the Paul Mellon estate, the park continues to thrive as a treasured community space.

Park Hours: Dawn to Dusk

Planning Your Visit

• Please finish shelter cleanup and any activities at least 30 minutes before sunset to give staff time to prepare for the next day.
• Help us maintain safety and cleanliness by respecting park hours.
• The park officially closes at dusk. Visitors must exit by this time.

What is Dusk?
Dusk is the period just after sunset when the sky gradually darkens. To ensure everyone’s safety, visitors are asked to be out of the park by dusk.

Note: Staff may remain after dusk for safety and maintenance, but the park is officially closed.
