Application and Agreement for Employing Extra-Duty Deputies

 

Extra Duty Law Enforcement/Traffic Control Deputy

The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) offers local businesses, organizations, or citizens an opportunity to hire off-duty deputies (referred to as extra duty deputies) for the purpose of providing law enforcement services or traffic control. 

Deputies will perform duties in accordance with the law, departmental directives, policies, and procedures.  Deputies will not engage in non-law enforcement functions such as collecting tickets, serving food/beverages, checking ID’s, etc.  All requests for extra duty assignments must be submitted through the application process sheriff.events@fauquiercounty.gov and not through an individual deputy. 

Extra duty assignments are accepted on a voluntary basis.  Therefore, the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office offers no guarantee that we will be able to honor your request.   

We require a minimum of seven (7) days advanced notice of an event for it to be considered for staffing.  We strongly recommend providing at least 30 days advanced notice.  

Staffing

All staffing decisions will be made by the Sheriff’s Office.  Events requiring more than 4 deputies may require a supervisor.   

Payment

Payment is due upon completion of the assignment, unless other arrangements have been made.  Payment method is cash or check, made directly to the deputy or deputies assigned.        

Rates of Pay

Deputy $65.00 per hour (min 3 hours)

Supervisor $70.00 per hour (min 3 hours)

Cancellations/Postponed Events

24 hrs. advanced notice of a cancellation or postponement is required.  If such notice is not received, the minimum required rate of pay is expected.
