Sheriff’s Office Launches Security Camera Registration Program

WARRENTON, VA – The Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office is launching a new initiative focused on solving and preventing crimes. Our new platform, Security Camera Registration Program, is aimed at collecting locations of security cameras, whether commercial or residential, to be used as a time saving, investigative tool when incidents occur. This is a great way for law enforcement, business owners and citizens of Fauquier County to play a proactive role in community policing.

How It Works

Fauquier County business owners and residents can add their security cameras to the database by filling out an approved Sheriff’s Office Camera Registration Form and returning it to the office via mail or in person.  The form can also be submitted online at the current Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office website.  There is NO cost to join, and participation is voluntary. 

The information is simple – the best point of contact, physical address, business name if applicable, phone number, email address if available, and a few simple questions about your cameras.  

After the information is obtained, it will be cataloged and incorporated into a map layer within our Computer Aided Dispatch system (CAD). In the event an incident occurs where surveillance footage would be helpful to an investigation, the map will be checked for locations that may be able to provide beneficial information.  Fauquier Sheriff’s Office would then contact you to get permission to obtain the footage. 

Why We Need Your Help

Community partnerships are a critical component to solving crimes. Surveillance footage is instrumental during investigations to identify and locate offenders. By partnering with Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office to register your security cameras, law enforcement can expand their eyes and ears throughout the County.  Sharing this information will streamline law enforcement area canvasses, working to identify offenders and solve crimes quicker!

It is important to mention that your information will remain confidential and Fauquier Sheriff’s Office will only be requesting surveillance footage for active investigations.  This program DOES NOT give access to your camera system, and there is NO MEANS of monitoring what is captured or remoting into your systems.  Only the information provided by volunteers will be maintained.  Information will only be shared as required by law or court order.
